When he ran as an independent candidate in Richmond Centre, he deliberately introduced himself as "Servant Dickens." It was more than a slogan; it was a promise. He wanted every resident to understand that the people are the true owners of this city, and elected officials have a duty to listen, to serve, and to act in the best interests of the community.

His conviction was strengthened during the debate over the proposed supervised consumption site. Dickens witnessed firsthand how decisions affecting the community were moving forward despite widespread public concern. He believed that Richmond residents deserved greater transparency, meaningful consultation, and a genuine opportunity to have their voices heard before major decisions were made. That experience reinforced his belief that government must always remain accountable to the people it serves.

Rather than remaining silent, Dickens chose to stand with the community. He entered public life because he believes leadership begins by listening. Every concern raised by residents deserves respect, and every voice deserves to be heard.

Today, as many seek the office of Mayor, Dickens is once again stepping forward—not because he seeks power, but because he believes Richmond deserves a different kind of leadership. Leadership built on humility, accountability, integrity, and service.

Dickens believes that City Hall should never tell the people what they should accept. Instead, City Hall should listen, respond, and serve.
